Component Wine Company creates single-varietal, single-vineyard wines from Napa Valley, Sonoma, Bordeaux & Provence. Our goal is to provide an intimate & elevated experience in which you learn about the intrinsic characteristics of each grape and each region. How can you discuss the influence of Petit Verdot in a great blend without knowing it intimately first? We hope to aid in that pursuit, while producing some delicious wines along the way.

“The wines are pure, exuberant with varietal precision. I think these wines will open the minds of consumers to the classic Bordeaux grape varieties. With bottle age, they will gain complexity and reveal their nuances.”  Rajat Parr, James Beard Award winning Sommelier

MAKING WINE IN california & france
We produce what we believe to be the most honest expression of single varietals from the finest vineyards in Napa Valley, Sonoma, Bordeaux & Provence. In Sonoma, for example, our 100% Sémillon is grown from the oldest Sémillon vines in the valley, planted on Moon Mountain in 1886. We then vinify the wine in concrete egg and neutral French oak, to preserve the freshness and bright character of Sémillon. This combination allows this low alcohol wine to express it’s natural texture, structure and vibrancy.
In Bordeaux, our Cabernet Franc comes from a small family vineyard named “Des Romains” on the top of the St. Emilion plateau bordering Château Pavie and Château Troplong Mondot, with clay so thick that you need a shovel to dig more than a couple inches deep.  Scattered in the soil are chunks of limestone, which is no surprise for this site due to the ancient limestone quarry less that a hundred yards away. And to top it off, the wines from Bordeaux are made by the renown winemaking team from Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac.
Our vineyard sources are as solid as any, but our desire is simple: to give you an intimate experience with varietal and place.

WINES

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

A strong, structured Cabernet Sauvignon with dense but refined fruit aromatics and subtle winter spices. This masculine wine will age well for next 20+ years.

CABERNET FRANC

This Cabernet franc is silky and elegant, very much the feminine partner to the Cabernet Sauvignon, the structure is lighter in body, with soft and sweet tannins, reminds me of sweet breakfast pastries!

PETIT VERDOT

Petit Verdot
is the varietal that led me to create
Component Wine, because of its incredibly unique aroma and character, this wine needs to
shine on its own. Dark and dense, yet
bright and fresh as it opens up.

SÉMILLON

A stunning white wine from Napa, with some of the most unique character I have ever seen from a white wine. It is fresh and floral with tropical and stone fruits, low and subdued alcohol content. Chill it liberally, and let it come to temperature in the glass, over a long period of time.

This project takes quite an incredible team of people, from vineyard management to winemaking to logistics & hospitality. While we are absolutely dialed in to our production in Bordeaux, we couldn’t do it without the help of Stephen Bolger, Lorraine Carrigan, Véra Pham Van Sam, Daniel LLose (Technical Director, Château Lynch-Bages), and Eric Boissenot (Oenologist).

LA COLLINE (FORMERLY LA PYRAMIDE) | SAINT-ÉMILION

La Colline is a single vineyard, small lieu-dit or “named parcel” on the top of the plateau in Saint-Émilion, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. The vineyard is planted to 100% Merlot, in deep red clay soils with major limestone deposits. This vineyard sits adjacent to two main landmarks: the iconic Château Troplong-Mondot and an ancient limestone terraced quarry. The vineyard produces Merlot that has the density expected from the finest estates in the world for Merlot, but with a subtlety of beauty and reservation that reminds me of Lafleur.

DES ROMAINS (FORMERLY LA CARRIÈRE) | SAINT-ÉMILION

Des Romains, planted to 100% Cabernet Franc, is an impressive, yet quite small, single vineyard just steps away from La Colline, also on the top of the plateau in Saint-Émilion. This vineyard however, is directly adjacent to the eastern-most vineyard parcel of Château Pavie - truly one of the most iconic and revered Bordeaux producers in the world - and one of only four Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) designated wines. The soils are absolutely stunning, clay, limestone and calcareous deposits. The vineyard produces Cabernet Franc of elegant finesse with a backbone of firm structure.

LES GALETS (FORMERLY DEMI-LUNE) | SAINT-ESTÈPHE

Our only Left Bank vineyard is Les Galets, planted to 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, in the heart of the northern-most region of the Médoc, Saint-Estèphe. This site is stunning, offering the slightest bit of elevation increase from the neighboring vineyards, and allowing visitors to see to the river from the highest point. The soils here are classical Left Bank, specifically classic to Saint-Estèphe - gravel, limestone, clay and sand. They are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, and stand out from other Médoc neighbors for higher clay content - allowing for more concentrated wines in warmer, dryer vintages. A neighbor of this vineyard, down the road north to the river is Château Montrose, the first Bordeaux wine that truly taught me what complexity was - and as such, we couldn’t be more excited to work so close to that special estate.
